Speed
Merges
are often over 100,000 pages a minute – that is
at least 1,000 times faster than in Word. Jet Letter is
many folds faster than most competing products. It’s
not uncommon to see Jet Letter merge well over 150,000
simple letters per minute and complex forms with dozens
of variables, some drawn from tables, and graphics are
often done at 50,000 records a minute. The ability to
employ up to six printers on any job shortens production
time and provides a wonderful amount of redundancy.
Time, in our business, is money. Speedy merge times mean
money to you in several ways. First it simply reduces
the time it takes to get a project out the door. You pay
for people and facilities by the hour – long merge
times cost money. Just as importantly, however, is the
ability to service the famous rush jobs handily. You can
say YES to the “unreasonable” demands of clients.
You can get those “must drop by 4 o’clock”
jobs done without running into costly overtime situations.
Clients will be very happy that they selected your firm
for their work!!
Furthermore, in countless situations, the use of Jet Letter
6.0 has saved many hours a week in job set up time. The
versatile, industry specific, language of Jet Letter 6.0
takes all of the hard work out of job set up, easily doing
the more difficult jobs, such as variable page statements,
dividing large jobs into manageable batches, and personalizing
each piece. Many users say Jet Letter offers the quickest
set-ups in the business.

Printer
Support
PCL5e,
HPGL2, PCL5c and PDF support for all popular printers
from the “big iron” Xerox and Kodak sheet
fed machines and the Oce’ continuous printers through,
mid-size “Digital Copiers” and printers, to
desktop/workgroup class HP, Kyocera, Lexmark, Xerox and
OKI machines. PPML support to drive the larger Xerox,
Kodak and HP color “presses.”

High
Volume Production at a Low Cost
Direct
mail firms having the need for really high volume production
normally associated with the “big iron” printers
can achieve such production using Jet Letters ability
to control multiple printers from a single server. Three
typical 50 page per minute printers, Jet Letter and a
PC server can provide a very economical way to achieve
the 150 page per minute (8,000 to 9,000 pages per hour)
production desired. And with such a configuration the
redundancy provides a wonderful peace of mind. Furthermore
the capital outlay is a fraction of the other solution.
(Workgroup class printers are now available with the same
operating cost of large XEROX machines, without the same
capital or maintenance costs.) Please contact Jet letter
sales for a sample break even analysis.

Versatility
- Easy Set-up and Job Control
Because
Jet Letter is designed from the ground up with a single
purpose – support of variable data printing in the
direct mail firm, the job set-ups and job control are
both powerful and amazingly straightforward. Some users
report setting up jobs in 10% of the time taken in competing,
less specific, software products.
Jet
Letter 6.0 – the Industrial Strength software for
the mail merge industry. Jet Letter 6.0 is not software
adapted from some other application to do this job. Rather
Jet Letter 6.0 was written from the very start as the
best possible solution to demands facing the direct mail
business. Jet Letter 6.0 deals with all of the difficult
issues facing variable insertion/mail merge projects.
The attached list of features attests to that!! You can
easily handle multiple and variable page invoicing and
such complex forms as insurance booklets. Data can be
drawn from multiple databases conditioned on almost anything.
“One to many” table lookups, permitting access
at all records having a specified key, facilitate the
harder jobs such as statements and invoicing. Larger shops
can handle all of their work in Jet Letter 6.0 without
the need for “external” programming and database
manipulations. Smaller shops can begin to tackle the harder
jobs which will put them ahead of their competitors.

Variables
and Math
-
Load dozens of tables into memory for fast processing
- “Point to” and use external tables (DBF
files)
- Inclusion of an unlimited number of variables or “Merge
Fields”,
- Each variable is 1024 bytes long
- Use normal English for variable names
- Use one dimensional arrays as variables {cost(x)}
- Use existing column headings as variable names
- Accurate integer and dollar math up to +/- 2,000,000,000
(floating-point math causes rounding errors in dollar
amounts)
- Proper handling of U.S. currency. $7,234,567.89 is
valid.
- Tests and arithmetic can be done on these currency
values
- Conversion of dollars to dollar text
- String manipulation, length, insertion, and search
for character(s), concatenation.
- Persistent variables saved from run to run -- such
as last invoice number, individual, batch, or group
totals, discounts offered, etc.

Logic
It’s
this set of features that sets Jet Letter 6.0 far ahead
of it’s competitors. Jet Letter is a programming
language specially designed for the direct mail, variable
data printing world. The statements in Jet Letter are
designed with a specific industry in mind. While some
of this work can be done in general purpose languages
such as FoxPro, Access, or Visual Basic, the same job
can be done in Jet Letter in far fewer statements and
much more quickly. They run much more quickly too.
Perhaps
more importantly, a major step is saved. The whole job
can be done in Jet Letter. Pre-processing in the “programming”
department is not required (yours or your customers).

Tables
Here
again Jet Letter has capabilities like no other such product.
Pre-processing work in FoxPro or Access are simply not
necessary. Merely import the table and perform the conditional
lookups in Jet Letter. No more pre-processing by you or
your client. And, since tables are handled in memory,
not from disk, they run incredibly quickly. (See speed
section)

Color
Printing and Graphics
Jet
Letter offers full PCL5c color support as well as a PDF
version.
-
RGB spot color assignments may be controlled in a variety
of ways. RGB values may be looked up in a table based
on a file parameter.
-
RGB assignments may also be computed. A bar for example
might be computed to go from blue for zero value through
red and then yellow based on a computed variable. One
can easily make a rainbow if desired.
-
For example a billing total may be highlighted in a
particular color based on logic associated with a credit
limit, a lookup table based on amount, zip code, gender,
or other code in the file.
-
Using the computational features of Jet Letter, for
another example, one could place a figure (box) of a
computed (or tabulated) color at a particular location
computed from variable data on a page.
-
Color graphics from Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator and
similar products may easily be brought into Jet letter.
-
In Jet Letter you can perform color enhancement and
sizing on an entire file of color or black and white
images. For example you can change the color depth (24
bit to 16 bit for example), set the desired number of
shades of gray, re-size images so they all come out
the same size, enhance (brighten, change contrast, etc.).
These
functions can as well be done on a batch basis. You can,
as another example, take 500 color jpegs, tiffs, pcx,
gif, etc of varying size and perform a variety of functions
such as change colors, filter, enhance, re-size, rotate,
mirror, change color depth, color balance, add effects,
edit palette, crop, resize, change aspect ration, rotate
and mirror, convert to gray scale, re-name and a host
of other functions.
